Created for a pair of design exhibitions and displaying very Bauhaus typography and layout, László Moholy-Nagy’s poster was actually created in 1929, the year after he left his teaching position at the Bauhaus in Dessau. It’s a hugely stylish graphic print that captures the spirit of adventurous and ground-breaking design that was being created all the time back then amongst Moholy-Nagy’s milieu. It’s certain to be a favourite of anyone who appreciates graphic design, typography and 1920s art.

Description

Imitationalism in Andrew Conway-Hyde’s Art – Imitationalism, or representationalism, emphasises the importance of lifelike representation in art and photography. Andrew Conway-Hyde’s work makes this principle evident through his meticulous incorporation of recognisable objects and historical artefacts. By grounding his abstract compositions in elements that are familiar to the viewer, he creates a bridge between styles and abstractionism. For example, in pieces like “Timeless Reflections,” the inclusion of old photographs and other historical objects serves as an anchor that provides a sense of continuity and connection to the past. This grounding in reality allows viewers to engage with the abstract elements of the composition more comfortably, creating a harmonious balance between the familiar and the unfamiliar.
